The Challenge

Nocturne Studios had gone viral three times in eight months – a hoodie drop that hit 4 million views, a styling video that hit 9 million. Each time, the brand watched engagement spike and sales barely move, because the buying journey was: watch video → tap link in bio → leave TikTok → land on a slow mobile site → probably abandon

They had manually listed a handful of products on TikTok Shop, but inventory wasn’t synced with Shopify, which meant they’d sold out items twice on TikTok while showing them in stock on their main site – and once had to cancel 340 orders after a restock miscalculation. Customer trust took a visible hit in their reviews.

The brand’s founder put it simply: “We’re winning attention and losing the sale on the walk between platforms. Every extra tap is a customer we don’t get.

Our Approach

We treated social commerce as an inventory and fulfilment architecture problem first, and a marketing problem second. Selling in-app only works if stock, pricing, and order routing are perfectly synchronized with the source of truth – which had to remain Shopify.

We connected TikTok Shop and Instagram/Facebook Checkout directly to Shopify via native channel integrations, then built custom logic on top to handle Nocturne’s specific edge cases: limited-drop products with hard sell-through caps, size-run inventory buffers, and synchronized flash-sale pricing across every channel simultaneously.

In parallel, we rebuilt their core Shopify mobile experience to be TikTok-traffic-optimized – because a portion of shoppers still tap through rather than checking out in-app, and that landing experience needed to match the speed of the platform they were coming from.

What We Built

  • TikTok Shop and Instagram/Facebook Shop connected as native Shopify sales channels with real-time two-way inventory sync
  • Custom inventory buffer logic for limited drops – reserving stock across channels to prevent oversell during high-velocity moments
  • Unified order management: TikTok Shop, Instagram, and Shopify web orders all flow into a single Shopify Admin queue for fulfilment
  • Synchronized flash-sale pricing engine ensuring a discount applied on TikTok Shop reflects instantly across Instagram and the main store
  • TikTok Pixel + Events API (server-side) implementation for accurate attribution despite iOS tracking restrictions
  • Mobile-optimized landing experience for TikTok click-through traffic: sub-2-second load, video-first product pages, one-tap Shop Pay checkout
  • Creator/affiliate seeding program integrated with TikTok Shop’s affiliate tools, tracked back to Shopify via UTM and discount-code attribution
  • Weekly social commerce performance dashboard combining TikTok, Meta, and Shopify data in one view

“We had the virality. What we were missing was the plumbing to actually capture it. Now when a video pops off, we watch the Shopify order count climb in real time instead of watching views climb and sales stay flat. That gap used to be our biggest source of frustration – now it’s basically closed.”

– Founder, Nocturne Studios

Key Takeaway

Social commerce doesn’t fail because of weak content – it fails because of weak plumbing between the platform where attention happens and the platform where inventory lives. Connecting TikTok Shop and Instagram Checkout to Shopify as true synced sales channels, not bolted-on listings, is what turns viral moments into reliable, repeatable revenue.
