The Challenge
ProBuilt Supply had outgrown WooCommerce in every possible way. With 90,000 active SKUs, eight years of order history, 140,000 registered customer accounts, and a peak of 12,000 concurrent visitors during their seasonal sales, WooCommerce was collapsing under its own weight.
Server costs were climbing. Page loads during peak traffic were pushing 8 seconds. Their ops team was spending an average of 22 hours per week fighting plugin conflicts, caching issues, and database timeouts. Three of their major wholesale clients had already threatened to place their next order elsewhere because the B2B ordering experience was so frustrating.
They knew they needed to move. What they feared was losing eight years of SEO authority, order history, and customer data in the process – a reasonable fear, given what’s at stake.
Our Approach
We ran a four-stage migration: Audit & Map, Parallel Build, Data Migration & Validation, and Cutover.
The audit phase produced a complete inventory of every data entity that needed to migrate: products, variants, collections, customer accounts, historical orders, metafields, redirect requirements, and SEO assets. We built a migration map before touching a single record.
Cutover was planned for a Tuesday at 2am local time – the lowest traffic window in their analytics – with a rollback plan defined in advance.
What We Built
- Full data migration: 90,000 products, 140,000 customer accounts, 8 years of order history, metafields, tags, and product relationships
- SEO migration: 7,400 URL redirects mapped and implemented, all meta titles/descriptions/alt texts preserved, canonical structure rebuilt, XML sitemap submitted
- Custom Shopify Plus theme built to match key UX patterns the customer base was familiar with – minimising relearning friction
- B2B wholesale portal built on Shopify Plus native B2B features with custom pricing tiers and Net-30 payment terms
- Automated inventory sync configured between Shopify and their warehouse management system
- Pre-migration data integrity testing across 100% of product records; post-migration QA across 50-point checklist
- Zero-downtime cutover with live monitoring during the transition window
- Post-launch 30-day hypercare support with dedicated Slack channel

“I was terrified of the migration. We had eight years of data, hard-earned SEO rankings, and thousands of wholesale clients who weren’t going to be patient with downtime or lost orders. eBizTrait made it feel routine. The cutover night was the most uneventful thing we’ve ever done – and that’s exactly how it should be.”
– Operations Director, ProBuilt Supply
Key Takeaway
A Shopify migration is not a copy-paste exercise. Done wrong, it destroys years of SEO authority and customer data overnight. Done right – with rigorous planning, parallel development, and obsessive QA – it is the single highest-leverage infrastructure decision a growing ecommerce business can make.
