The Challenge
Maison Éclat had a brand identity that belonged in the windows of Dubai Mall. Their Shopify store looked like it belonged on Page 12 of a Google shopping search.
The problem was their theme – a popular off-the-shelf Shopify template that had been customised to within an inch of its life, with conflicting CSS, bloated JavaScript from abandoned app installs, and a visual identity that could have belonged to any of 40,000 other Shopify stores. Customers arriving from their luxury editorial ads experienced an instant credibility gap: the ads promised premium, the store delivered generic.
Their luxury positioning was being undermined at the exact moment it mattered most – the moment of purchase intent.
Our Approach
We treated this as a brand expression project as much as a development project. Before writing a single line of code, we ran a brand immersion workshop with the Maison Éclat founders to understand their design language, customer psychology, and the sensory experience they wanted the store to evoke.
From that session, we defined a Theme Design System: typography hierarchy, motion language (micro-animations and scroll transitions), component library, and a strict visual grammar that every page element had to pass through.
The theme was built modularly – every section and block configurable from Shopify Admin – giving the client full creative control without touching code.
What We Built
- Fully bespoke Shopify theme built from scratch in Liquid, SCSS, and vanilla JS – no starter theme dependencies
- Custom Design System with 24 configurable section types and 60+ blocks, all manageable via Theme Editor
- Cinematic homepage: full-viewport video hero, editorial product reveals with scroll-triggered animations, and a storytelling section for each product line
- Luxury product pages with 360° image viewer, ingredient deep-dives, video testimonials, paired product upsell, and refillable programme cross-sell
- Performance architecture: zero render-blocking scripts, all images served in WebP via Shopify CDN, lazy-loaded below fold – Lighthouse score 96/100
- Arabic RTL layout support built into the theme for GCC market localisation
- Gift wrapping and personalised message flow built directly into the cart without third-party apps
- Theme documentation and training session delivered to the client’s internal team

“We finally have a store that matches the product inside the box. Every time I open it on my phone I’m proud of it. And for a luxury brand, that feeling – that the digital experience is as considered as the physical one – is not a nice-to-have. It’s everything.”
– Creative Director, Maison Éclat
Key Takeaway
An off-the-shelf theme is a compromise. For brands where visual identity is a core commercial differentiator – luxury goods, premium lifestyle, high-end B2C – that compromise is paid for in conversion rate, in brand perception, and in customer trust. A bespoke theme is not a cost; it is an infrastructure investment that compounds.
